Delight in the comforting embrace of warm, cinnamon-kissed apples beneath a crisp oat topping. This classic apple crisp recipe promises a perfect balance of tender fruit and crunchy sweetness, making it an irresistible treat for any time of the year.

Apple Filling

  • 3 pounds Granny Smith apples, peeled and sliced (approximately 5 cups sliced)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Topping

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup flour
  • 2/3 cup rolled oats
  • 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350° F.  Grease a deep pie dish or large baking dish with butter or cooking spray and set aside.
  2. While the oven is preheating, combine the sliced apples with the sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla extract in a large bowl.  Mix until the apples are evenly coated. Pour into the prepared baking dish.
  3. In a medium-sized mixing bowl, combine the brown sugar, flour, oats, and kosher salt.  Pour in the melted butter and stir until well-coated.  Evenly spread over the top of the apples.
  4. Place in the preheated oven for 50-60 minutes until the apples becomes soft and the topping turns golden brown. Let it cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
